A New Frozen Era

In 2013 the world was introduced to the world of "Frozen". This movie was a $1.2 billion global sensation that won two Oscars one for the hit original song "Let it go" and one for best animated feature. Frozen was big among families and friends everywhere. You could be walking down the street and a car passing by would be blasting the frozen soundtrack - I know that I would in my car. Frozen merchandise was booming and Disney took this love for Frozen and began incorporating it heavily within their parks. Frozen was now seen in parades, incorporated in the firework show and eventually scored a section in California Adventure for everything frozen - including a theater for a show dedicated to singing along to the soundtrack with Anna and Elsa. I do admit that I fell in love with Frozen when it came out, yet with this new frozen era it has truly has become overwhelming. I remember being at Disneyland waiting to watch the firework show and I heard a couple of girls talk about how pretty Elsa's castle is (they were pointing to Sleeping Beauty's castle http://a.dilcdn.com/bl/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/07/disneyland-castle.jpg ). While not everyone might know that the castle at Disneyland is Sleeping Beauty's castle, it was just sad hearing that Frozen has "taken over" the fantasy world causing children (and some adults) to forget about previous princesses or disney movies.

A movie that I personally love and still love is Tangled. Tangled was the Walt Disney Animation Studio's 50th movie and after Frozen came out, Tangled still comes in first place. While this movie was a success, it didn't "take off" like Frozen did. Yet it is now slowly coming back and being remembered for what an amazing movie it was. Each scene in Tangled was a new adventure and every character in the movie gave you another reason to fall in love with Tangled. A part of me wishes that Tangled became as popular as Frozen, yet I am thankful that it didn't because I would probably not appreciate it as much.

Overall, both films are spectacular and Disney does know how to create a film that reaches all your emotions. Yet, my personal opinion is that Tangled is better. I find myself relating to Rapunzel (not the creepy mother part and the tower) and her desire to know more and to never give up on her dreams.

  1. I do enjoy Tangled more than Frozen, too. I love the music in Frozen, but I think that the story in Tangled is better than in Frozen.

  2. I completely agree, Tangled deserves more credit!
Pascal was just as good as Olaf and I loved his sass!

  3. I still love Frozen, but I agree there was way too much hype and Frozen merchandise.

  4. I loved Tangled. It is literally about a girl exploring and being independent, at least when she escapes from her tower. Eugene wasn’t your typical Prince Charming. Frankly, he was the only character that questioned why characters broke out in song. The best characters were Sassy Maximus and Pascal. They made it hilarious. Yes, I love Frozen, too, but the craziness of Frozen merchandise that surrounds Frozen makes me love it a bit less.

  5. I am also a Tangled fan! I feel bad that we often compare the two movies, they are both so different and should not be compared! It is a bummer tangled did not get the same hype that frozen got in the theatre.

  6. I have to say personally I love both of these movies. I was definitely apprehensive when they came out because I was definitely worried about them taking over older princesses and them being forgotten about. I also have to agree due to the Frozen takeover it has burned me out on Frozen and Tangled is always something I would be in the mood for.
